Multiple sequence analysis of senescence-associated proteins. The R. sativus dark-inducible, senescence-associated DIN1 gene encodes a chloroplast protein (RsatDIN1). The Arabidopsis AtSAP gene also encodes a senescence-associated protein and is highly regulated during leaf senescence. The Arabidopsis AtKetoRes gene was cloned by complementation of a yeast erg3 sterol mutant and subsequent selection on ketoconazole. Rhodanese proteins catalyze the conversion of thiosulfate and cyanide to sulfite and thiocyanate. Residues shared by T13L16.13 and bovine rhodanese thiosulfate sulfurtransferase, (BovTHTR, EC 2.8.1.1) are highlighted. The structure for bovine mitochondrial thiosulfate sulfurtransferase has been solved. The enzyme consists of two domains that share little sequence similarity but have the same structure. The second of these domains, from residues 159 to 296 [SLLKT..KGGKA], contains the active site.
