Kinesin-like proteins have previously been described in Arabidopsis. Takahashi and co-workers have identified five kinesin-like genes in A. thaliana, designated as kat (Mitsui, et al. 1993 Mol Gen Genet 238:362-368). Proteins encoded by these genes exhibit sequence similarities in their presumptive ATP-binding and microtubule-binding motifs with known kinesin-like proteins. Other properties of the katB and katC genes are described (Mitsui, et al. 1994 Plant Mol Biol 25:865-876). Both F02P16.12 and T32N15.10 share significant similarity with kat proteins (see alignment below) and both map to the same YAC on chromosome V.
